A Little Bit About Me
I live with my husband Dan and my two Labrador Retrievers, Koty and Eve about one hour north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the small community of Island Grove which is located on the south shore of Lake Simcoe.
I became interested in painting in 1996, after taking a local Folk Art Class. Shortly there after, I focused on landscapes on wood, canoe paddles, and various metal pieces, such as milk cans, saw blades and old watering cans. I participated in our annual "Georgina Studio Tour" for two successive years where I procured a number of commissions.
In 2002, I became involved in watercolours after taking a small workshop that was offered at one of our Provincial Parks. And the rest they say is "History".
My passion for this elusive medium has grown and most days has me put paint to paper . A tiny area off of the kitchen has become my studio
I find that my chosen medium is an on going learning experence. I enjoy stretching my wings by exploring new techniques. and painting a variety of subject matter. I try and attend several workshops each year. Each one offers a different perspective and the opportunity to learn something new.
I am a member of the Georgina Arts Center and Gallery and Wet Canvas, an online artist site with over 140,000 members world wide in every medium. The water colour members of Wet Canvas have been an inspiration to me during the 8 years I have been an active, participating member. It is through them and with them that my watercolour techniques continue to grow.
In 2008 , I will be participating in the annual 7th Annual "Purple Turtle Arts Festival", " Art in the Park" , and the 14th annual " Georgina Fall Studio Tour". I will also be entering a painting in the Georgina Art Cenre and Gallery's "Juried Art Show" during the month of October
I have recently retired from a 15 year career as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) in the Health Care field. I am enjoying the summer and will be seeking another less strenuous career come Autumn.
Among my many other interests are gardening and camping.
Below, are some pictures of my family, Dan, Koty and Eve and for those that have not guessed it, that is me on the top of the page right showing off one of my first paintings which was exhibited in a Student/Teacher show in the Georgina Arts Center and Gallery.
